In a statement on Tuesday, the NCHR said the workshop brought together 22 journalists and media professionals representing a wide range of newspapers and media outlets.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mohamed Alnsour, head of the OHCHR Middle East and North Africa Section, and Ezzat Ibrahim, NCHR board member, chair of the Media Committee, and editor-in-chief of Ahram Weekly and Ahram Online.
The workshop, also attended by NCHR board member Yara Kassem, aims to strengthen journalists' and media professionals' understanding of a human rights-based approach to reporting by enhancing their knowledge of international human rights standards.
According to the statement, the programme covers international standards related to freedom of opinion and expression, the safety of journalists, and the media's role in promoting and protecting human rights, as well as encouraging public participation.
It also addresses key issues, including the international framework for protecting freedom of expression and states' obligations to ensure the safety of journalists.
The programme also examines best practices in human rights-based reporting and the challenges journalists face in carrying out their work.
The workshop forms part of the NCHR-OHCHR ongoing partnership, reflecting their joint commitment to strengthening the capacities of media professionals and promoting a safe and enabling environment for journalists, in line with international human rights standards.
