The total was up from 125.65 million in March and around 116.2 million in April 2025.
Mobile penetration rose to 112.88 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants, compared with 112.61 in March and 105.76 a year earlier, according to the ministry’s May 2026 ICT Indicators in Brief, which reports data through April.

The latest figures extend the growth recorded during the first quarter, when mobile subscriptions reached 125.65 million, representing an 8.47 percent year-over-year increase.
Phone-based mobile broadband subscriptions increased to 95.27 million in April, up 0.89 percent from 94.43 million in March and 9.59 percent from 86.94 million a year earlier.

By contrast, data-only mobile broadband subscriptions, including those for tablets and portable routers, decreased 1.02 percent month-on-month to 4.02 million. However, they remained 17.35 percent higher than the 3.42 million recorded in April 2025.
Mobile internet subscriptions accounted for 75.54 percent of all mobile subscriptions, up from 75.15 percent in March and 74.81 percent a year earlier.
Active fixed-broadband subscriptions, including ADSL and fibre connections, rose 8.38 percent annually to 12.96 million.

Fixed-line telephone subscriptions also rose 7.18 percent year-on-year to 14.39 million, bringing the combined total of mobile and fixed-line subscriptions to 140.51 million, compared with 129.63 million in April 2025.
Fixed-line penetration stood at 12.9 percent. Residential customers accounted for 91 percent of fixed-line subscriptions, while commercial users represented 7 percent and government entities 2 percent.
The report also showed that 438 ICT companies were established in April, compared with 250 in March and 185 in April 2025.

The new firms included 296 information technology companies, 138 IT-enabled services companies, and four communications companies.
Their combined issued capital reached EGP 234.34 million, up 31.2 percent month-on-month and 28.2 percent year-on-year.
For comparison, 828 ICT companies were established during the first quarter of 2026.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian Exchange's IT, Media, and Communication Services Index rose to 5,326 points in April, from 4,661 in March and 2,729 a year earlier.
Egypt had 4,656 post offices in April, down 1.23 percent annually. The number of pension beneficiaries served through post offices increased by 3.92 percent to 5.3 million, while instant postal financial transfers rose by 15.33 percent to 420,000.
