No party has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the cabinet.
In a statement, the cabinet said the relevant authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to take the necessary measures to protect Egypt's interests and national security.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Petroleum reported that a fire broke out on a regasification vessel and a storage vessel at Damietta Port on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, stating that no injuries or fatalities were reported.
In a statement, the ministry said emergency response plans were activated immediately after the fire was reported, with on-site firefighting and security teams working alongside the relevant authorities to contain the blaze.
The ministry said Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi arrived at the scene to oversee the emergency response, monitor firefighting and security operations, and ensure that all safety procedures were implemented in coordination with the relevant authorities.
It added that emergency teams are coordinating with technical authorities to complete the necessary work and assess the incident's impact.
The ministry also urged media outlets and social media users to rely on official statements for updates, adding that it would continue monitoring the situation and announce any new developments.
Damietta Port hosts one of Egypt's two LNG liquefaction plants, alongside the Idku facility.
Since 2025, the Mediterranean port has served as a key hub for floating storage and regasification vessels as Egypt has increased LNG imports to strengthen gas supplies during the summer, when electricity demand peaks.
