The agreement was signed in Cairo at the close of the 11th AFI Aviation Week, attended by Egypt's Civil Aviation Minister Sameh Elhefny. It was signed by Sameh Fawzy, president of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, and Julius D. Dennis, director-general of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority.
Under the agreement, Egypt will provide technical assistance across several areas of civil aviation, deliver specialized training programmes and transfer technical expertise to support the development of qualified aviation personnel in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and recommended practices.
Elhefny said the agreement reflects Egypt's efforts to expand aviation cooperation with African countries, describing knowledge-sharing, and capacity building as key to developing the sector and strengthening regional integration.
He said Egypt's growing network of technical partnerships across Africa reflects increasing confidence in the country's aviation expertise and would help support the development of air transport on the continent while reinforcing Egypt's role as a regional aviation hub linking Africa with the Middle East and Europe.
The agreement was signed during the 11th AFI Aviation Week, held in Cairo from 27 to 31 July. Organized by ICAO, the event brings together aviation authorities and industry representatives from the Africa-Indian Ocean region to discuss aviation safety, security, air navigation, infrastructure, environmental sustainability and workforce development.
The Liberia agreement is the latest in a series of moves by Egypt to expand its regional role in civil aviation.
Earlier this month, Egypt was elected to chair the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization. In April, it also renewed its agreement with ICAO to host the organisation's Middle East Regional Office in Cairo, one of seven ICAO regional offices worldwide serving 15 member states.
During a meeting with ICAO Secretary-General Juan Carlos Salazar earlier this year, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi highlighted Egypt's airport expansion programme and efforts to strengthen aviation training and technical systems.
