The national carrier said the restored route aims to strengthen air connectivity between Egypt and Sudan, support travel and economic ties, and provide passengers with more flexible options.
To mark the resumption, EgyptAir is offering discounts of up to 50 percent on tickets for the first flight to Port Sudan.
The airline said the route’s return reflects its efforts to expand its presence in regional and international markets.
EgyptAir introduced direct Cairo–Port Sudan flights in September 2023, nearly five months after suspending services to Khartoum International Airport following the outbreak of war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Port Sudan subsequently became Sudan’s principal international aviation and humanitarian-aid gateway as fighting paralyzed Khartoum and forced the Sudanese government to operate from the Red Sea city.
The route has since faced security-related disruptions. In May 2025, EgyptAir cancelled flight MS865 after RSF drone attacks targeted Port Sudan’s airport and other infrastructure, prompting Sudanese authorities to suspend air traffic temporarily.
Sudan’s government returned to Khartoum in January 2026, and the capital’s airport has resumed domestic flights.
