With this sensational victory, Egypt have become the first African nation in history to reach the semi-finals of the IHF Women’s Youth World Championship since the tournament’s inception in 2006, and the second non-European side ever to accomplish the feat, joining South Korea.

Egypt's best-ever showing at the competition came at the 2022 edition in North Macedonia, where they finished seventh.

Egypt dominated the quarter-final clash from the opening whistle, holding a firm 17-13 advantage at half-time. Supported by disciplined transitional play and strong backline scoring.

The Egyptian team weathered a frantic second-half comeback from China, holding off the Asian side in the dying minutes to seal a 30-29 win.

Egypt's campaign has been built on a perfect record through five matches, as they opened the preliminary round with a 27-24 win over European runners-up Croatia, then downed one of the tournament's traditional heavyweights, France, 29-24.

A 83-17 rout of Fiji rounded off the group stage in style, the largest winning margin the team have ever recorded at a World Championship.

The main round brought no let-up. Egypt edged South Korea, the 2022 champions, 28-27 in a dramatic comeback after trailing by six points with under ten minutes to play.

They then survived a tense 23-22 finish against Denmark on Tuesday, a result that clinched top spot in Main Round Group I and confirmed their place among the last eight sides in the 32-team draw.

Goalkeeper Jaydaa Salama has been central to that defensive resilience, while Malak Malak Abou Youssef has emerged as a key attacking threat in the closing stages of matches.

Now Egypt are gearing up for Friday's showdown against Spain, the defending world champions, who secured their spot in the semis by defeating Switzerland 27–25.
