The 27-year-old, scored twice in the second half to put Man City ahead before Rayan Ait-Nouri put the icing on the cake after Jorge Dominguez had given Atletico the lead before the break.

“I’m enjoying myself a lot. Obviously, as a striker, it gives you confidence, and it gets you going in the flow. I just had to tap it into the net, and I’d like to thank [Antoine], of course. Yeah, it just gives me confidence in the preseason. It feels good. Next is the Community Shield,” Marmoush was quoted as saying on Man City’s official website after the game.

“I had three or four chances when Savinho and Semenyo dribbled and played the ball, and I wasn’t there.

“So, in the second half, all that was in my head was just to make the runs and be there, and they did their job, and we won. It was a really, really good feeling,” the Egyptian star added.

Last season was a disappointing one for the Egyptian forward, who struggled to secure a regular starting place at City, scoring eight goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.

At international level, Marmoush’s performance at the World Cup was far from convincing and did not reflect the considerable ability of the Egyptian international.

Man City appointed Enzo Maresca as their new coach to replace Pep Guardiola, with Marmoush confirming that he and his teammates are trying to learn the new tactics.

“We’re trying to learn the new tactics, the patterns, and what the coach demands from us, and I think we’re starting to get the hang of it,” Marmoush said.

“Obviously, after 10 years, what Pep did here was unbelievable. It’s not easy after the change, but we’ve done really well, and we’ll go back home and keep going,” he concluded.
