The four fatalities were women and girls aged 12, 15, 22, and 67.
The injured were pulled from the rubble and taken to hospital for treatment, while rescue teams continued searching for possible survivors early Tuesday.
Police, Civil Protection personnel, land-rescue teams, and ambulances were dispatched after the Cairo Security Directorate’s emergency operations room received a report of the collapse.
Security forces cordoned off the site, while electricity and natural gas supplies were temporarily cut as a precaution. Heavy machinery and loaders were deployed to clear the debris and facilitate the search.
A team from the West Cairo and Hadayek Al-Qobba public prosecution offices inspected the site and questioned witnesses and survivors.
Prosecutors directed the formation of an engineering committee to determine the technical cause of the collapse, examine the condition of neighbouring buildings, and establish whether local authorities had previously issued any decisions concerning the property.
No official cause for the collapse has been announced. Local reports described the property as an old building, but accounts differed over whether it comprised three or four levels.
The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) also deployed emergency response teams to support state agencies at the scene.
The ERC said its teams administered first aid, provided psychological support to those affected, and continued monitoring developments in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The Hadayek Al-Qobba accident is the latest in a series of deadly building collapses reported across Egypt in recent years, often involving ageing or structurally compromised properties, unauthorized alterations, or unimplemented demolition orders.
In February 2025, 10 people were killed and three injured when a three-storey building collapsed in Kerdasa, Giza. Witnesses said the collapse followed a gas-cylinder explosion, although prosecutors opened an investigation to establish the cause. Two neighbouring buildings were evacuated.
In July 2025, two people were killed and four injured when part of a five-storey residential building collapsed in Alexandria’s Al-Attarin district. The occupied building was subject to a partial demolition and restoration order issued in 1993 but never implemented.
