Egypt’s annual core inflation climbed to 14.7 percent in July, up from 14.3 percent in June, while annual urban inflation accelerated to 14.9 percent, according to data released by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) on Monday.

Core inflation is a measure of price increases calculated by the CBE that excludes volatile items, mainly food and beverages, to provide a clearer picture of underlying price trends in the country.

In Egypt, core inflation is calculated and published by the CBE, while headline inflation, which includes food and beverage prices, is published by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

This comes amid renewed conflict in the region, which has affected global oil prices. As a result, Egypt raised retail fuel and gas prices by between 14 and 17.1 percent in March.

Meanwhile, Egypt announced the resumption of its automatic fuel pricing committee starting from the first quarter of fiscal year 2026/2027, with fuel prices to be reviewed every three months and prices either reduced, maintained, or increased in line with technical and economic indicators.

Egypt’s annual urban inflation accelerated to 14.9 percent in July, up from 14.3 percent in June, CBE data showed.

The monthly rate declined by 0.4 percent in June and 0.5 percent in July 2025, reflecting persistent cost pressures despite a slight monthly increase.

Due to persistent cost pressures in housing, transport, and services, annual inflation is still not fully contained, despite some slowdown in food prices.

The CBE’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is expected to review key interest rates for the fifth time this year next week, on 20 August.
