The ministry said the statement comes as part of its monitoring of reports published by some Arab and international media outlets concerning Egyptian affairs, noting that some coverage had contained false and inaccurate information about Egypt.
The ministry’s statement comes amid several rumours and misleading reports about Egypt, particularly its involvement in recent regional developments.
Earlier on Thursday, the Ministry of Transport denied any connection between Egypt and a ship targeted by the Houthi group off the Yemeni coast, saying media reports that linked the vessel's operator to Alexandria were inaccurate.
In a statement, the ministry said the vessel, TIHAMA, sails under the Tanzanian flag and is owned by a Yemeni national. At the same time, its operating company, Blue Sea for Management Marine, is managed through its Dubai branch in the UAE.
The ministry urged all media outlets to exercise accuracy and to obtain accurate information from official sources at the relevant authorities in Egypt.
The transport ministry’s statement follows several reports that the ship is of Egyptian nationality. These reports prompted the ministry to counter the rumours and prevent further confusion over the ship’s identity and its connection to Egypt.
According to the Egyptian Cabinet Media Centre’s July report, rumours circulating in Egypt more than doubled during the first half of 2026, rising 113 percent compared with the same period last year.
The report, which attributed the increase largely to regional crises, said misinformation linked to regional developments accounted for 57.3 percent of all rumours monitored between January and June 2026, up from 21.1 percent during the corresponding period in 2025.
