In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the attack on a Saudi oil tanker on 25 July, describing it as a serious threat to the security and safety of navigation in the Red Sea, one of the most important international waterways.
Cairo firmly rejected all acts targeting vessels and civilian facilities or threatening the security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and international waterways.
Egypt also reaffirmed the utmost importance of respecting, ensuring, and protecting freedom of global navigation in all international straits and waterways in a manner that guarantees the freedom of international trade and global supply chains in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
The statement came as the Houthi group has claimed responsibility for both attacks, renewing concerns over maritime security in the Red Sea and the free flow of international trade.
The Houthi attacks, including missile and drone strikes on commercial vessels, have disrupted shipping routes, prompting many operators to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope and increasing transit times and costs.
