Egypt strongly condemns attack on two UAE vessels in Strait of Hormuz

Egypt strongly condemned on Friday the attack targeting two vessels affiliated with UAE’s Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as they transited the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, as a threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and freedom of vessel movement through one of the most important international waterways.

In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry affirmed Cairo’s full solidarity with Abu Dhabi, stressing the need to halt all acts that could threaten the security and safety of international navigation or endanger civilian vessels and facilities.

Egypt further underscored the importance of respecting international law in a manner that contributes to de-escalation and preserves regional security and stability.

Earlier on Friday, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs blamed Iran for the attack, which resulted in no injuries.

In its statement, the UAE foreign ministry strongly condemned the attack as a flagrant violation of UN Security Council resolution 2817, which affirmed the importance of freedom of navigation. It rejected the targeting of commercial vessels or the obstruction of international maritime routes, stressing that using the strait as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail represents “acts of piracy” by Iran.

Egypt has repeatedly condemned all attacks on Arab Gulf countries and Jordan since the start of the US war against Iran in February.
