Ahmed Shobeir, a former Egypt international goalkeeper himself, said on OnSport FM that his son had now received three offers, two of which were formally submitted to Ahly. He said Ahly rejected Danish club Nordsjaelland's $1 million offer before a slightly improved offer was made. However, Czech side Slavia Prague's interest was turned down by the player himself.
The third proposal came from Como, who finished fourth in Serie A last season, at a value of roughly $2 million. According to Ahmed Shobeir, Ahly rejected the bid immediately, insisting the goalkeeper was not for sale.
He added that Mostafa had told sporting director Sayed Abdel Hafiz he remained committed to the club, and that Abdel Hafiz responded by describing the player's treatment as being on par with Ahly's top-tier squad members. Ahmed Shobeir said he believed a contract renewal between his son and the club was very close, though he acknowledged Como could still raise their offer and said he was aware of interest from at least one of Europe's other major leagues.
Shobeir's current contract with Ahly runs until the end of next season. Should he not sign an extension, he would be free from January to negotiate with foreign clubs without requiring his club's permission.
The goalkeeper has made 70 appearances for Ahly, recording 38 clean sheets and conceding 44 goals. He is one of three senior goalkeepers at the club heading into the new season, alongside Mohamed El Shenawy and Hamza Alaa, after Mohamed Seha joined Masry on loan.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported this month that Shobeir had signed with CAA Base, the agency that also represents Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti and Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo, among others. Romano said interest in the goalkeeper had grown following his performances at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Shobeir helped Egypt reach the last 16 of the tournament, saving a penalty from Iran's Mehdi Taremi in the group stage before denying Argentina captain Lionel Messi from the spot in the knockout round. Egypt's campaign ended with a 3-2 defeat to Argentina.
