Abdelatty rejected any unilateral measures that could undermine Somalia’s territorial integrity or national institutions, according to a statement from Egypt’s foreign ministry.
The two ministers discussed developments in Somalia and the Horn of Africa, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral relations and advance the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Abdelatty highlighted the growing momentum in Egyptian-Somali relations, stressing Egypt’s keenness to further to develop the strategic partnership across political and economic fields.
He reiterated Egypt’s full support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, and stressed Cairo’s categorical rejection of any unilateral measures that could undermine Somalia’s territorial integrity or sovereignty.
The Egyptian foreign minister also affirmed Egypt’s continued support for efforts to build Somalia’s state institutions and strengthen their capabilities, particularly in combating terrorism and extremism.
He stressed the importance of securing sustainable funding for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, taking into account Egypt’s participation in the mission.
Abdelatty also underscored the need to maintain the African Union mission and the UN mission supporting Somalia, and to ensure continued international support and adequate funding for both missions to help preserve security, stability and Somalia’s unity.
For his part, Ali praised Egypt’s continued support for Somalia at various levels, as well as its steadfast positions in support of Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Somali foreign minister stressed his country’s keenness to maintain close coordination and consultations with Egypt and further strengthen bilateral relations in a way that serves the shared interests of the two countries and their peoples.
