The committee and the Gaza Electricity Distribution Company inaugurated the lighting project at Egyptian Al-Hurriya Camp 18 in the Netzarim area, with representatives of several UN and international organizations attending.
The project restored electricity to families who had been without power for more than 1,000 days. It improved the camp’s facilities and pathways, supplied electricity to essential services, and provided residents with a safer, more stable environment.
The committee and the electricity company said the project reflected cooperation between humanitarian and public-service organizations to improve essential services at displacement sites despite limited resources and difficult conditions.
As part of its activities over the past week, the committee also organized the Hope Summer Camp at orphanages in Gaza, providing children with psychological support and educational, recreational, and social activities.
The initiative aims to provide a safe, supportive environment where children can play, learn, express themselves, and develop their skills while strengthening their sense of safety and belonging.
The committee also prepared and distributed hot meals to children attending the summer programme at the Egyptian camp for orphans.
In a separate activity, it visited the Palestine Foundation for the Care of Children with Down Syndrome and Autism, bringing gifts and organizing recreational and psychological support activities for the children.
The committee said the visit was intended to emphasize the importance of ensuring that children with Down syndrome and autism remain at the centre of humanitarian care and support.
The latest initiatives build on the Egyptian Committee for Gaza Relief’s expanding network of shelters and services across the strip.
By December 2025, the committee had established 22 relief camps, 16 of which were operational and collectively sheltering around 120,000 displaced Palestinians.
The camps provide tents, cooked meals, clothing, blankets, and medical services, as well as water wells, clinics, and educational facilities. One was established in the Netzarim area of central Gaza.
The committee is staffed by Palestinians inside Gaza and coordinates its operations from Cairo with the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) and donors.
Its earlier work included supplying milk to hospitals and orphanages, providing food and dairy products to orphanages, and assisting families sleeping on the streets.
Its child-support programmes have also expanded beyond food and shelter.
In February, the committee and Misr El-Kheir Foundation distributed school bags and stationery to children in displacement camps. A month earlier, it launched a campaign to establish and equip schools and temporary learning points across Gaza, where the education of hundreds of thousands of children has been severely disrupted.
The initiatives come amid a continuing humanitarian crisis.
Around 1.6 million Palestinians face high levels of food insecurity or worse, while more than 100,000 children under five are projected to suffer acute malnutrition in 2026.
