A series of five separate attacks, most of them car bombs, rocked Baghdad early Wednesday, killing at least nine people and leaving several more wounded, officials said.
The explosions struck in mostly Shiite Muslim neighbourhoods of the capital, according to an interior ministry official and a police source.
The attacks occurred in areas ranging from the commercial district of Karrada in central Baghdad to the predominantly Shiite neighbourhood of Shaab.
A car bomb also rocked the mostly-Sunni district of Adhamiyah, the officials said.
The blasts come amid a protracted surge in unrest across the country that has forced Iraq to appeal for international help in combatting militancy just months before its first general elections in four years.
