Thousands of people peacefully gathered in Manhattan's Times Square and Union Square Thursday, invoking the rallying cries "hands up, don't shoot" and "I can't breathe," alluding to the deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and Eric Garner, 43, who was arrested on suspicion of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes and was placed in an officer's chokehold in New York.

People gather in New York as part of a "National Moment of Silence for Victims of Police Brutality". The groups say they will assemble at over 90 vigils across the U.S. to share in a moment of silence and solidarity with each other.
