On Friday, 11 September, Cairo's Maadi district, Street 9, witnessed an event filled with colour and energy.

Organised by Doom Team, a group of young students, the event gathered people from a variety of social strata and generations, including whole families and sole individuals.

The team described the event as a "colour festival," since the main activity included throwing powdered colours to music brought by the organisers.

However, the organisers did not link the event to India's "Holi" spring festival tradition.

Doom Team told Ahram Online that this was their first event in a series they plan to execute in the coming months in a variety of locations.
