For anyone heading down to Milan for some shopping, first, pick up your shopping map from your concierge. You won't regret it. For the best shopping and conveniently close to the centre and the most important sights, the streets around El Duomo (the basilica) is a great start. You'll often find two shops within 30 minutes walking distance from each other of some of the more coveted designer houses, such as United Colors of Benetton, Gucci, Prada, Dior, etc.
Buenos Aires Street is one of the most well-known shopping streets, as well as Via Montenapoleone, which has it's own metro stop.
For less painful spending, the large shops by the Puerta Venezia metro stop are trendy, local and inexpensive.
