Skywatchers around the world were treated to the first of two supermoons on Tuesday. A supermoon is a full moon that appears larger and brighter in the sky due to its closer proximity to Earth.
The next supermoon is expected to occur on the night of 30 August and will be a blue moon, meaning a second full moon within the same month.
Professional and amateur astronomers alike are eagerly anticipating the upcoming blue moon, a proverbially rare event not expected to occur again until 2024. With clear skies expected in many locations, it is an ideal time to enjoy the stunning display of the night sky.
