Mozart's opera The Magic Flute was scheduled to be performed on four consecutive evenings, from 20 to 23 November.
The opera was performed by Cairo Opera Company soloists, Cairo Opera Choir with choir master Aldo Magnato and the Cairo Opera Orchestra conducted by Nayer Nagui. Set designer Mohamed Abdel Razik and director Hisham El-Tally gave the opera a pharaonic twist.
The last evening of the performance, Friday 23 November, was cancelled due to the clashes between the protesters in the nearby Tahrir's vicinity. All other performances at opera venues were also cancelled.
