Normally you only catch a fashion designer at the end of their runway show. The shy types humbly flash by for a five-second wave, a jolly kiss in the air, and get off as quickly as possible. The bigger names and bigger camera lovers might take a whole 30 seconds to walk down the catwalk surrounded by their models and then make a respectable b-line for the exit.

That leaves fashionistas a bit stilted, without satisfying the curiosity of gathering nuances about their personality by a study of their facial features, gestures or personal choice in wardrobe.

However, galas, parties and big charity events attract the biggest names in fashion, including Donatella Versace, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Armani etc, giving us a moment to get a better look at favoured designers.
