The ballet Spartacus, choreographed by Valentin Yelizariev, is currently staged at the Cairo Opera House by the Cairo Opera Ballet Company accompanied by the Cairo Opera Orchestra under the baton of Nayer Nagui.
The ballet premiered in February 2010. Following its success, the company offered additional performances in April of that year.
Accompanying music is composed by Aram Khachaturian, the production overseen by artistic director Erminia Kamel.
The first performance of this year opened 21 February with a cast that included Ahmed Yehia (Spartacus), Anja Ahcin (Phrygia) and Mamdouh Hassan (Crassus).
Spartacus, with three different casts, is being performed 23, 24, 25, 26 and 28 February in the Main Hall of the Cairo Opera House.
25 February's performance will be preceded by a small tribute to the late Abdel-Moneim Kamel, former director of the Cairo Opera Ballet Company and its creator, and former chairperson of the Cairo Opera House.
