Egypt has drawn up a strategy to develop the palm date sector and associated businesses and increase exports. In 2020, Egypt produced 1.7 million tons of dates, contributing over 21 per cent of global date production, estimated at eight million tons, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed in a statement that Egypt’s non-oil commodity exports rose by 40 percent in the first nine months of 2021 to record USD 29.7 billion, compared to the USD 21.2 billion recorded in the same period of 2020.
