Born on 19 October 1937, Tarek Ali Hassan wore many hats. A practising physician, as a professor of medicine at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, he reached the post Head of the Endocrinology Department. He skillfully juggled his medical responsibilities with his deep involvement in arts and music in particular, serving as one of the first few chairmen of the Cairo Opera House.
