Last week, I stood inside the Islamic Civilization Centre in Tashkent, recently inaugurated by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, surrounded by rare manuscripts, ancient Quranic codices, some more than a thousand years old, and display technologies that transform civilizational memory into a living conversation with the visitor, carrying many questions, perhaps the deepest of which was this: how do place and time conspire to reopen the great questions of human history?

The first International Forum on Islamic Civilization opened in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent on Tuesday, bringing together religious leaders, scholars, policymakers, and representatives of international organizations from over 40 countries to discuss the role of Islamic civilization in promoting peace, tolerance, science, and intercultural dialogue.

The Islamabad Memorandum, signed by Iran and the United States last week, is good news for everyone. However, Iran’s nuclear program, enriched uranium stockpile, ballistic missiles, and regional proxies remain unresolved. In other words, the war might be over, but the conflict is not.
