In a telephone call he received from the ruler of the Gulf state, El-Sisi and Al-Thani exchanged views about the regional developments in the framework of coordinating the Arab efforts to confront regional challenges, the Egyptian presidency said.
From his side, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian efforts led by President El-Sisi to strengthen regional peace and security especially lately with the success of the Egyptian brokerage to reach a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group earlier this week.
Qatar’s Emir also discussed with the Egyptian President other issues related to bilateral cooperation asserting that the Gulf state is keen to boost the current cooperation between the two countries.
They agreed to continue bolstering coordination and consultation regarding the ongoing regional developments to protect Arab National security.
Sheikh Tamim bin Al Thani visited Egypt in June for the first time since Cairo and Doha resumed diplomatic ties last year as part of Al-Ula agreement that ended an over three-year-long diplomatic rift.
Fighting between Israel and the Islamic Jihad started in Gaza on Friday after Israel assassinated prominent Islamic Jihad leader Taysir Al-Jaabari in Gaza through airstrikes, ending a year of calm in the enclave and prompting the group to retaliate.
Both Israel and the Islamic Jihad said that they had agreed to the Cairo-brokered ceasefire proposal.
The ceasefire came into effect on Sunday at 11:30 local time (8:30 GMT) after Egypt conducted intense communications with both sides to contain the escalation since the launch of the airstrikes.
The three-day Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip left at least 43 Palestinians dead, including 15 children and four women, and 311 wounded, the Palestinian health ministry said.
On Monday in a statement released by the White House, US President Joe Biden thanked President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and the senior Egyptian officials who played a central role in this diplomacy, as well as Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar and his team “for helping to bring these hostilities to an end”.
