France’s Macron, Mbappe hail Morocco's achievement in 2022 World Cup

French leader Emmanuel Macron and national team star Mbappe paid tribute to the Moroccan national team for a historical achievement after they became the first African team to reach the World Cup semifinals.

French president Emmanuel Macron visited Morocco's dressing room after his team ended the Atlas Lions World Cup dream with a 2-0 win in their semi-final clash on Wednesday evening.

In a tweet, the French president wrote: " To our friends the Moroccans, congratulations for your beautiful journey. You have made football history."

“The Moroccans have played very well. I want to tell the Moroccan people they have a great team. I want to tell them of our friendship,” Macron said after the game, according to AP.

​Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe, 23, swapped shirts with his PSG teammate Achraf Hakimi, 24, after the game and was seen on TV hugging and condoling him.

In a tweet after the game, the French phenemenon forward Mbappe expressed his pride in the prolific defender Hakimi, who managed to stop his dangerous forays for most of the match.
