Mohamed Alaa

Mohamed Alaa is another surprise inclusion in Hossam Hassan’s World Cup squad.

Until a few months ago, he was largely unknown at international level before earning his first call-up to the national team’s March training camp.

The goalkeeper has impressed for Gouna over the past two seasons, securing a place in the squad for the tournament ahead of more experienced names such as Ahmed El Shenawy and Mohamed Sobhy.

Alaa has stood out for his quick reflexes, command of his penalty area and composure under pressure.

He is yet to make his senior international debut and, as fourth-choice goalkeeper, may have to wait longer to achieve that milestone, though he will still experience the World Cup environment as part of the squad.
