Qualification: With a 3–0 win over Oman on 5 June 2025, Jordan secured their place at their first ever World Cup, advancing from the third round of Asian qualifying. After the match, Jordanian fans flooded the streets in celebration — singing, honking horns, and waving flags in euphoria. Since then, Jordan reached the Arab Cup final in late 2025, losing to Morocco after extra time (2–3).
Coach: Following the relatively successful tenure of Hussein Ammouta — who guided Jordan to their first ever Asian Cup final in February 2024 (a 1–3 loss to Qatar) — the federation opted for another former Moroccan international, Jamal Sellami. The 55-year-old, a former midfielder at Raja Casablanca and Beşiktaş, successfully led the country to their historic first World Cup qualification, drawing on his own playing experience at the 1998 tournament in France. He brings more than 20 years of coaching experience — even if the Jordan appointment is his first outside Morocco.
Star player: Sometimes hyperbolically dubbed "the Messi of Jordan" — a nickname he himself dislikes — Mousa Al-Taamari remains the team's undisputed star. Followed by over 1.5 million people on Instagram, the forward built his professional career through Cyprus and Belgium before establishing himself in France from 2023, first at Montpellier then Rennes. Tireless and quick, his numbers with the national team speak for themselves — 76 caps, 23 goals. Approaching his 29th birthday, he has a rare opportunity to shine on the world stage.
Ambitions: In a first World Cup appearance, openly targeting the round of 16 is difficult — particularly in a group containing defending champions Argentina, African heavyweights Algeria, and European side Austria. But Jordan will want to make a strong impression and will be aiming for their first ever win at a World Cup finals. And then, who knows.
