No need to panic! Storm Daniel brings no catastrophes to Egypt: EMA

Storm Daniel lost most of its strength by the time it reached western Egypt on Monday, bringing with it bad weather, but not the disaster it earlier trailed in its wake, Egypt's Meteorological Authority (EMA) media spokesperson stated on Monday.

Storm Daniel

Daniel crossed into Egypt a day after bringing widespread devastation to northeast Libya, where heavy rainfall caused flooding that has killed numerous people and damaged or destroyed hundreds of homes.

In remarks to Extra News TV channel, Mahmoud El-Kayati explained that Daniel is characterized by a low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere and a deep low-pressure system over the Mediterranean Sea.

This brought wind and airborne dust to western Egypt, including Salloum, Siwa, and Matrouh, followed by moderate rainfall and thunder.

The storm is expected to move east, bringing moderate rainfall to Alexandria, the North Coast, and the Nile Delta by evening.

On Tuesday, wind and light rain are expected in Port Said, Damietta, North Sinai, Suez Canal zone, and Greater Cairo.

The wind will increase on Wednesday, stirring up sand and dust, particularly in northern Upper Egypt, the Red Sea governorate, and the Suez Canal zone.

The Climate Centre of Agriculture in Egypt advised farmers to refrain from irrigating their fields in areas expecting rain, and to promptly drain excess water to prevent soil saturation.
