Russia's defence minister Sergey Shoigu met on Wednesday in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi where they discussed boosting military cooperation between the two countries, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.

El-Sisi and Shoigu discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, including cooperation in the war on terrorism to restore stability in the region.

The Russian minister also delivered to El-Sisi a message of condolence from Russian president Vladimir Putin over Friday's terrorist attacks on a mosque in North Sinai, where 311 people were killed.

Shoigu also met with defence minister Sedky Sobhi as part of the fourth meeting in Cairo of the joint Russian-Egyptian commission for military and technical cooperation, according to the Ministry of Defense. 

The two ministers discussed boosting military cooperation amid the ongoing developments in the Middle East.
