The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has held the draw for the second round of the men’s qualifiers for the 2012 Olympic Football Tournament on Wednesday in 6 October City, Egypt.

The CAF Secretary General, Hicham El-Amrani, conducted the event which was attended by the FIFA Head of World Cup and Olympics qualifiers, Gordon Savic, and representatives of the countries participating in the competition.

The match dates for the last-16 round will be played on 3/4/5 June 2011 for the first-leg matches, 17/18/19 June 2011 for the return-leg matches.

Egypt was drawn with their Arab neighbour Sudan. The Pharaohs reached the second stage after beating Botswana 3-2 on aggregate while the Sudanese Olympic team eliminated Ghana 2-1 beating them on aggregate.

The quarter final will be organised by a group system, as the last eight will be divided into two groups. A new qualifying system will be applied for the next stage of the championship, as three teams are going to represent CAF at the London 2012 Olympics with a fourth African team meeting a team from Asia in a play-off match to be held on 12 April 2012 in London.

The 16th team to qualify will only be known on 20 April 2011, as FIFA has postponed the return-leg match between Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire until this date, in order to allow the Ivorian team to leave its territory to play the match.

The draw result is as follows:

Algeria v Zambia
Morocco v RD Congo
Congo v the winner of the Côte d’Ivoire/Liberia match (20 April)
Gabon v Mali
Sudan v Egypt
Benin v South Africa
Tunisia v Senegal
Tanzania v Nigeria
