A Romanian court ruled that Vasile Avram will be held for 29 days pending trial.
Prosecutors say that businessman Sorin Ioan Terbea gave Avram the money to ensure that “agreed” referees would oversee matches involving topflight team FCM Targu Mures in the 2011-12 season.
Prosecutors also say Avram traveled via a helicopter provided by Terbea free of charge.
Romanian soccer has long been tainted by corruption allegations.
